Beryllium and AlBeMet® have an extensive heritage in infrared and electro-optical applications.
  Optical components are mass-minimized and scanning rates increase when high-stiffness, low mass materials are used. Optics maintain their integrity over extended periods of time when made of materials that exhibit superior dimensional and temporal stability.
  Precision optics are sensitive to thermal transients, which are dissipated rapidly by materials like beryllium and AlBeMet®, that have high thermal diffusivity. The high damping rates of beryllium and AlBeMet® create optical components of unparalleled stability.
  These are some of the reasons that beryllium and AlBeMet® have been selected for airborne and space-based targeting optics and research telescopes like LANTIRN, Sniper, Arrowhead, and the James Webb Space Telescope. Ground-based research and targeting optics, like VLT, M1A2 and M-60 tank mirrors also benefit from the advantages of beryllium.
